Where is the best place to live as a Sophomore?

If you're really adamant about having a single, you need to arrange a suite
with friends in Claremont or EC. If you don't really care about a single
and you just want decent housing, McBain and Nussbaum are good options.
More than likely if you go into the housing lottery alone you'll be placed
in a blind double in McBain or Wein, so try to avoid that.

In short:
McBain
Claremont
EC
Nussbaum

Best places to live and most likely placed to get in the housing lottery for
sophomores.

If you are looking for something like Carmen. McBain is definitely for you.
Make sure you go in as a suite of two though. Nussbaum is also ok. If you
are looking for a suite, 47 Claremont or Ruggles usually go to Sophomores.
Singles can be hard to come by as a Sophomore. You definitely won't get into
EC, Hogan, or any of the nicer dorms in a single unless you pair up with
upperclassmen.

I lived in an EC exclusion suite Sophomore year. The room was really small,
but I liked the seniors I lived with and I spent most of my time in the
lounge upstairs.

depends on what you want. if you want a single and an on-floor community, go
for the llc (but it might be too late for that). if you want to party,
mcbain. if you want to live with friends away from everyone else, claremont.
if you want to be antisocial and quiet, furnald.

I am a sophmore and I live in wien. I have a pretty nice sized single
and although it has a community bathrooms, the cleanliness really
depends on your floormates. The area is pretty quiet and not on the
main campus but very close. The second floor has a computer lab,
lounge with a 50' flat screen on the wall, and a brand new laundry
room they just opened this semester. I have friends in McBain which is
disgusting, Broadway is ok and Shapiro isn't half bad either but if I
had to rank them I would say:

Broadway/Wien
Shapiro
hartley/wallach
McBain

I hope this helps.

Furnald, hands down if you can get it. Its right on campus and you can
get a single.

Actually, because so many rising sophomores are told that the only way to get good housing is to go into a suite, sophomores with fairly high numbers can end up in Furnald singles. In my year, people with numbers in the later 800s or early 900s were able to get Furnauld rooms. If that doesn't happen and you don't mind a double, it's best to go into Broadway, which is one of only a handful of clean dorms. You'll probably have to deal with bunkbeds, though. If you don't mind low sanitation levels, Wien, Schapiro, and McBain might be okay for you.
