Comfortable shoes are a must! Chances are, you will have at least one class that you will have to walk for about fifteen minutes to get to. Also, take advantage of your resources. You will not gain the freshman fifteen (or twenty) if you choose to eat the healthy foods at the dining hall over the many unhealthy (yet oh-so-delicious) foods. There is a lot to choose from. And go to the gym! It's free!

Stay on top of your work!!! Try to skim the readings (since there are hundreds of pages to read every week) so you understand whats going on in your classes. Don't procrastinate and leave everything to the night before- its usually a disaster and you will stress yourself out necessarily. Take advantage of the resources offered. Make sure you take a trip to Butler Library and learn where things are located- it'll be helpful when you have a research paper to do. Go to your professors' office hours! Also, take advantage of NYC! There is so much to do and see and Columbia is always offering free tickets to things going on around NYC.

I am learning the hard way...I thought I can easily catch up but now I am going crazy and tired 24/7. I am praying for weekends when I don't have classes so do keep up.

When deciding what meal plan to get always get the one with the least meals. No matter what you think it will take effort to finish those meals. Also, dorm-wise mattress pads will really make the beds much more comfortable.

Definitely do not procrastinate. You'll be swamped right before midterms/papers. Also, eat healthy and exercise. Eating away from home definitely gives you more freedom but it doesn't mean you should eat anything and everything. Take advantage of resources like the library, professors' office hours, tutoring centers. Lastly, you're in NYC! Be adventurous and explore. Columbia offers many tickets to events so go to as many as you want!
