I second the Harney Sushi in Old Town. The whole atmosphere adds to it all (the small space, the techno music and DJ, the bar) and the prices are great. ~Monica

Umm, I'm no expert on sushi but the "Sushi Hut" (Mission Valley Center, near Ralph's/Blockbuster/Long's Drugs) is pretty good.

Admittedly I usually get their Chicken/Beef Teriyaki wraps, which are in my opinion more delicious than a lot of the burritos you can find in San Diego (or at least, they are a 'breath of fresh air')

Everyone has a different definition for sushi. Some people love rolls and some people are strict sushi eaters (aka no rolls, just a nigri sushi).

If you want rolls a place with good rolls, that are large and pretty tasty is Nozomi. There are two locations, one on Regents next to UCSD and one on Convoy in Clairemont Mesa. They have decent fish but you really go there for their rolls and Green noodles (amazing stuff).

A good mesh of Sushi and Rolls is Sammy's sushi on convoy/Engineer. The guy occasionally has pretty good fresh fish, he makes some very creative rolls, and does an overall good experience at the sushi bar without intimidating the customers, which sadly is quite the trait at many traditional sushi restaurants.

Then there are 3-4 very well received traditional sushi places in San Diego. First is Sushi Ota in PB off Grand. THe problem with this place is its now too popular for its own good. THe only person who can make sushi worth a damn is the owner. So unless you get a reservation with him (at least 2 weeks in advance) you're looking at a bunch of crappy lil sushi chefs making simple cuts of meat that you could get anywhere. But if you do get the owner, Ota gets some of the freshest, first picks on the sushi in san diego.

There's also Kaga SUshi.. but unless you can speak Japanese.. good luck getting a reservation or eating there. I'm not even sure the owner/sushi chef speaks english. So if you go , go with people that speak Japanese.. it'll be an amazing meal. He gets top notch stuff.

There's Kaito sushi in Escondido, the guy gets AMAZING stuff... and he's nice (once again a trait not shared by many chefs). This is top notch, i'd go there more often if it wasn't in escondido..

Shirahama on convoy supposedly has amazing fish, but i've never had the opportunity to experience it. I was re-buffed from sitting at the sushi bar.. even though it was empty, on a thursday night,

Hi Sarah,

My two favorite sushi places in SD are RA Sushi in downtown SD
(www.rasushi.com) and Sushi Itto - there is one downtown and one in
Hillcrest. Both are fabulous!!! Good luck!

Hello,

I'm not a big sushi expert, but I have to recommend Harney Sushi in Old Town. It is delicious and the ambiance is way cool! On Thursday nights, they play reggae music. The music varies on Friday and Saturdays. I'm not sure about the other nights, because I've only been there on Friday through Saturday. I fell in love with it the first time I went and I've taken lots of friends ever since. I haven't had anyone complain about the place, yet. As a matter of fact, they've raved about it and keep wanting to go back!

Sushi Ota on Mission Bay Dr. (PB) is generally considered the best by the local Japanese community, but I really like Sammy Sushi on Engineer Rd. (off Convoy) for its more cozy ambience.

Sushi Deli 1 on West Washington has good quality, inexpensive sushi. 99 cent sake on weeknights during happy hour 4-7
