Two brand new eateries will open on campus! In September, within the School of Leadership and Education Sciences, will be Bert's Bistro. In the valley Fitness Center, Missions Café will open by mid-October.
University Center --Stop in for the all-you-care-to-eat breakfast, lunch or dinner Monday through Sunday. This includes our 20-foot salad bar, hot entree stations (everything from freshly prepared pasta dishes, to grilled chicken and burgers, a carving station, etc.) soups, desserts and much more. Marketplace: Deli, Bakery and Market --Did you know the Deli salad bar now features organic, locally grown, produce? Have you tried the hot panini sandwiches? Grab and go salads, sushi and wraps also available. The Bakery has Cafe Rojas Organic Coffee, pastries, and cereals. You can also get a smoothie made with real fruit, or a blended Acaî berry bowl topped with bananas and hemp granola- it's cold, fruity and a sustainable product of the rain forest- you will love it! The Market provides you with a plethora of quick snack choices: chips, candy, slushees, ice cream, sushi, cold beverages, magazines, toiletries, and groceries. (Located upstairs in University Center)
Maher Hall: Aromas Coffeehouse --Aromas proudly brews Starbucks coffee and espresso. Stop in for your favorite drink, hot or iced. Pastries, oatmeal, cereals, salads, sandwiches, soups on the go and more.

At USD you can either stop in to pick up your books or order them online. The USD bookstore website is pretty easy to navigate, and they have their schedule for buying books set up there as well. The bookstore is located in Loma Hall, down the steps to the left of Serra Hall, or if you're driving, next to the law school parking lot, facing away from the center of campus. Here is a cool interactive map of the campus to help you find your way there.
A note to anyone who wants to buy their books online-- they don't always have the used version, and you will get stuck with full price if they don't! For those buying their books well ahead of time, I highly recommend shopping around and comparing prices. Textbook publishers have a total racket going, so even if you've been asked to purchase the newest edition, the edition before it might be exactly the same and a few bucks cheaper. When you're shopping around Amazon is always good, and Half, even has a textbook specific super store that makes buying and selling really easy. Another fun one, Bookbyte, is also specifically for textbooks and you can sell them back for a pretty good price, too.
Grad students, depending on your program, you are expected to have at least skimmed your books before the first class, so buy early! You might even want to email the professor at least a month ahead of time to allow for shipping delays if you're ordering online. If you can't get ahold of the professor, go to the bookstore, online or in person, and see if they have their booklist available yet.
I'm a big fan of BigWords.com http://www.bigwords.com. Their bot will go out into the web, search for the best deals [including shipping] and return with a shopping list for you to click and buy. It is great and saves big bucks.
Park on one of the off streets of Linda Vista and walk up the stairs to get to school. Parking passes on campus are worthless.
Just park where the shuttle's pick -up unless you get to school in the wee hours.
Main parking structure....bottom floor.
Park on Via Las Cumbres next to the Vista's...it's way easier than trying to find parking on campus
So I am 20..and I have a year to go *sigh* before I can get into any place fun on the weekends without a fake ID...aka bars and clubs. Is there anywhere in SD that is 18+ like a club or bars that are any good??
Where are the really good sushi places near USD?
I am looking for an on campus book-keeping type job.

AMC Mission Valley 20 - 1640 Camino Del Rio, North, San Diego, CA 92108 (858)558-2AMC 098 (Mission Valley Mall)
A large mainstream theater, supposedly nicer than AMC La Jolla.
Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 - 10733 Westview Parkway, San Diego, CA 92126 - 858.635.7716 (Mira Mesa)
A nice large theater in Mira Mesa
Landmark Ken - 4061 Adams Avenue, San Diego, CA 92116 - 619.819.0236 (Kensington)
It's a bit of a drive but well worth it for this small independent theater. Probably the most independent of the three Landmark theaters, they have only one theater. They change movies every week, and the season's schedule can be picked up various places.
Landmark Hillcrest - 3965 Fifth Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103 - 619.819.0236 (Hillcrest)
Another fairly independent Landmark theater.
Balboa Park - Balboa Park
The Museum of Photographic Art supposedly shows movies regularly. In addition, during the summer the park also shows classic movies one day a week outside on the lawn - show up early and bring a picnic.
Other Theaters - Various locations
There certainly are more movie theaters scattered around, including some nice ones downtown and a drive-in somewhere. Look them up (Mr. Movie Times keeps a decent list) if this list isn't enough to hold you.

Keeping Healthy at USD
YOU are eligible for free health care! That's right, YOU!!! Ok, so it's just the health center located in Camino Hall (back left corner of the courtyard, just ask for help when you get lost), but it is FREE for all USD students, including graduate and professional students! It's open Mon-Fri, walk-ins welcome, though appointments preferred; call for hours during Summer or Intersession. They also handle vaccinations and will fill prescriptions for relatively cheap. Please note: you can probably get it cheaper at Costco (super inexpensive, even for non-generics) or, and this is a cool trick, you can ask RiteAid and Ralph's pharmacy's to give you the Costco rate.
And there's more-- you get free counseling, too! Here's the catch on counseling though, you only get 10 sessions per semester, and they will turn you loose if they don't think you really need their help. For those students who have to do counseling as part of a program requirement (SOLES), you will be referred unless you've got serious problems. You can join one of the group therapy sessions if you absolutely can't afford to go off-campus (and a lot of people can't so don't feel bad), and it will still count towards your requirement. The Counseling Center also has a psychiatrist, Dr. Reynolds, who's really nice, but she only comes in on Tuesdays so you usually need to get an appointment well in advance, and they will make you do byour intake with one of the other psychologists first.

The University of San Diego is surrounded by many (relatively expensive) housing options. The off-campus housing nearby in the Linda Vista/Mission Valley/Fashion Valley area is mostly condominiums and apartments.
As of July 2007, the average monthly rent in San Diego County jumped 5.4 percent to $1,345 during the last quarter compared to a year earlier, reflecting a rental market that is seeing increased demand as home sales slow, foreclosures rise, and condo conversions retreat to rentals.

Where do I need to go to petition for graduation?
If you had to do it all over again, would you attend University of San Diego?
Where are the really good sushi places near USD?
So I am 20..and I have a year to go *sigh* before I can get into any place fun on the weekends without a fake ID...aka bars and clubs. Is there anywhere in SD that is 18+ like a club or bars that are any good??
Where do I need to go to petition for graduation?
what's a typical 3 week summer course like in terms of ease and work load??

I am looking for an on campus book-keeping type job.
