CollegeWikis is information for students, by students.
We are both a messaging platform and a website. What does that mean? That means that you can join the e-mail list for your dorm, class year, courses, and more . . . or you can simply use the features on the website.
New? Here's how to use CollegeWikis:
Step 1: To stay in the loop with what your classmates are posting, sign up.
Step 2: Join some groups! We have groups for your dorm, class year, courses, interests, and more . . .
Step 3: If your group isn't full yet, invite others! For example, you can be the pioneer that creates a list for your course or dorm.
Step 4: Post something and see who replies! You can ask a question ("Where's the best sushi") or post a topic ("Sushi"). We recommend joining a group before you post, so that you can notify those groups of the new topic you posted.
Add a page: Want to create a page about your Fraternity, Chess Club, or whatever? Just click on the "Post" tab above, and you too can add anything you want.
Edit anything: You can edit (almost) anything on the site. Try it out in our Sandbox Topic
Join a group: We have groups for your school, courses, dorms, class year, and more. Join it and see what people are posting.
Post to that group: Want to ask people who took your course what to expect from the tests? Join the groups for your courses. Or want to ask others in your dorm what the best and worst classes are or where the best bathrooms are? Join the group for your dorm.
E-mail that group: Prefer not to log into collegewikis? Just e-mail the list name for that group. To do this, you have to have signed up and verified your .edu e-mail. You can then email your groups - for example, stanford@collegewikis.com to email others from stanford, or stanford-2010@collegewikis.com to email others at Stanford in the class of 2010.
Search: Want to see what topics people have been posting? Use our search.
When we were in school, we had an email list for our dorm that people used constantly. People would ask about anything and everything - from e-mail issues to where the best mechanic is. But there were two problems:
The information was never kept around - answers were only sent to the person who asked, and even when they were shared, they were never put up in an easily-searchable and editable database like CollegeWikis
Not everyone had access to an e-mail list for their dorm - and people also had no way to get out to other groups of people, like those in their major, or class year, or courses.
With CollegeWikis, we aim to solve both those problems. By asking questions or posting information, you're creating valuable information that will be available to others in the future. And, you can join all the relevant lists you want, to help you communicate with other CollegeWikis contributors.
