Group Easy Import

Do you have a group that you want to use on CollegeWikis, but are afraid to deal with migrating everyone? Have no fear; we now have an amazingly simple way to migrate users. After you create your group you can automatically add people to it.

  • Create your group
  • Go to your group page
  • Click “Invite/Import others” in the group menu
  • Make sure “add people” is selected, or change to “invite” if you just want to make people aware of your group
  • Enter the email address of all the people in your group
  • Hit “Add Members”, and you are done!

Users are automatically emailed a password, and can easily set their group preferences. They can even set it so that people can no-longer add them to groups!

CollegeWikis is now using Facebook Connect!

Since everyone is already using Facebook we made authentication via Facebook available to you! Now registering for CollegeWikis couldn’t be any easier.

  • Go to the home page.
  • Click “Connect with Facebook”
  • Select your school
  • You are connected!

If you are already a CollegeWikis user you will want to connect your account to facebook too, and that is just as easy as signing up. There are two ways to do it, first you can follow the steps already outlined about how to sign up. Or you can log into your account and click “Connect with Facebook” in the upper left corner.

Choosing Courses For Next Semester

For many students, it’s time for finals and to start selecting (if you haven’t done so already) your courses for next semester.  We have a number of CollegeWikis members looking for your help in making these decisions.

If you’ve taken one of the courses above, please help out your fellow students by posting your thoughts and experiences. And if you’d like to know about a class, post it on CollegeWikis today!

Santa, Sex and Scandals

This week on CollegeWikis students are asking some eyebrow raising questions. For example, People just issued its Sexiest Man Alive edition, giving Hugh Jackman this prestigious award. But not everyone agrees. In fact, an anonymous poster wants to know if you could pick, who would be your ’sexiest man’?

Now there’s Santa Claus. Everyone loves the big jolly dude, but not everyone can afford to play the part – so we have all these round-about-ways of giving gifts including the Secret Santa approach. Are there right and wrong ways to go about this? Do you have a better way of keeping gift giving easy and affordable? Post here!

People love a good scandal – it is human nature. Well, we have some scandals for you. There’s Barack Obama’s “I inhaled frequently, that was the point” comment… The 8-year-old charged with murder… and of course, the fickle economy. Scandalous!

Have something to say? Weigh in or post what’s on your mind on CollegeWikis today!

What’s Hot On Campus

One of the unique dynamics of CollegeWikis is that through our open collaborative – group messaging - platform (aside from private groups of course) you are able to pick up on what other college students are interested in at any given moment. What’s on their minds… What their worried about… Relationship woes. It’s an interesting phenomenon. Here’s a look at some of things being discussed right now on CollegeWikis:

America’s Comfort Food
Enrollment Cuts at Cali-Universities
Plans for Thanksgiving
Twilight (Movie): Too hyped up or totally worth it? and more!

Want to talk about something that’s on your mind? Post it now!

A Message to Professors: Walk the Wiki Way!

On CollegeWikis, there are over 55k individuals across 200 colleges sharing information in our real-time, interactive environment – and that number is growing every day! You see, CollegeWikis provides the tools to create dynamic social interactions between students and faculty. Students like the notion of wikis because they provide an interactive educational environment and the tools to help improve their scores. For example before submitting research papers, students use CollegeWikis for real-time peer evaluation so they can improve the quality of their papers before submitting them for grading. They also use our platform to share class notes, express ideas and conduct brainstorming sessions. It’s all about collaboration!

What’s also nice about CollegeWikis, and sets us apart from other similar sites, is that you don’t have to log onto the site to post new items or reply to questions. We have a ‘listserv’ email feature built into our platform that allows people to post and respond via their email clients like Outlook or Gmail. We’re set up so that we’re not just a “latent” wiki but rather a community of contributors and a messaging platform to get everyone involved in creating great content.

This is an example of our “group” functionality (for clubs, courses, etc).

And, in true wiki format, users can collaborate to create great topics.

If you’re still not convinced, here’s an eye opening story about a Boston College professor who has successfully incorporated wiki technology into his classroom.

We believe that everyone should walk the wiki way – especially colleges. So if you’re a professor interested in taking advantage of the value of wikis and group messaging, we’d love to help you kick start your initiatives on CollegeWikis.

Tell us a little about yourself.

AT: I’m a junior at the University of Maryland, studying economics. I’m very interested in entrepreneurship and the way it transcends societies. I’d like to own a small business or franchise after college.

How did you discover CollegeWikis?

AT: As for CollegeWikis, I found out about it on a campus job search Web site. The name definitely piqued my interest. When I checked out the site I thought it was such a great idea - where people can talk openly about their schools.

What is your favorite topic on CollegeWikis?
AT: I really like the topic on what would you do with $150,000. I was surprised to see such diverse and unique ideas everyone had. I thought most would just blow it on an Aston Martin!

Who is the historical figure you’d most like to share a long car ride with?

AT: If I could share a long car ride with someone it would have to be Sir Richard Branson. What he’s done with the Virgin brand is simply amazing. He’s such a creative guy and I love his dare-devil marketing ideas. He’s always making headlines with his stunts, which is just free advertising for his brand.

Do you have a guilty pleasure you’d be willing to share with the CW community?

AT: My guilty pleasure would have to be my buying stuff for my car. I have a 2002 Freelander, and I’m always buying equipment for it. I’ve added fog lights, lamp guards, a brush guard, and I’m currently looking into getting a snorkel for it. The fun is in researching an item, trying to find a good price, getting it put on the car and ultimately, staring at the finished product.
