So I came across this news story and wanted to know what everybody thought? Any big Coldplay fans out there?

I like their earlier stuff so much better...

It's always sad when a band breaks up, but at least he's doing it because of age and not b/c of fighting between the band members.

I see what your saying...but age?? 31 years old?? Since when has age become a problem in music? I thought it was about the love for music. That extends well beyond age. It will be sad, if it does happen...I guess it's not that important to him anymore

I mean, granted, 31 years isn't really considered old, but he has had a very successful career, and by continuing, in a way he's jeopardizing his what he has accomplished. This isn't a decision one makes on a whim; I'm sure he has really thought about it and considered that the best option is to retire.

i don't get it either, just some personal thing i guess. look at the rolling stones. they're still putting out records and they're in their 70s.

Either that, or he has run out of future music ideas and knows it...I'm sure that's not the case, but still...I don't see his judgment in splitting. Jeopardizing what he has accomplished? That would be a poor and selfish act. He plans to break up the band himself. Does he not take into consideration what his band mates want? Seems like a one man plan.

What I'm saying is that maybe it's nice to end on a good note.

hey guys. I think that was proclaimed by the band to be a rumor. They mentioned some sort of prolonged hiatus, but not any real notion of when or why. Parachutes was their album, everything else I would skip. It just all sounded very derivitive.

There are individual tracks on their last 2 albums that I absolutely love ( like Fix You on X&Y and Strawberry Swing) but for the most part I like to stick with my original Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head. Not gonna lie, they put on a FANTASTIC live show. I went to see them twice on the X&Y tour and they made the same claim at the end of the show that they were taking a break for a long time, but alas it was only two years before their next album! They're on a massive wave right now and I doubt their producers and label would really be too happy about a long hiatus haha...don't get worried!

i agree with emily, they're not my favorite band, but i saw them at the garden a few years ago and it was one of the best shows i ever saw.
